RP from 3rd tri: slip cover for glider

Anyone know if they sell these? ?We have 2 cats that seem to have adopted the glider & the ottoman as their new "bed" for during the day. ?We have been keeping both covered with blankets for now so they don't get totally covered in hair, but I was wondering if anyone knew of a store or webpage that carried these?? (or at least of a SUPER easy pattern for a sewing-machine challenged gal!)?TIA?

Re: RP from 3rd tri: slip cover for glider

  • My mother, who's a darn good seamstress, just spent hours and hours and HOURS reupholstering my glider/ottoman because we couldn't find a slip cover. It came out great, but probably wasn't worth all her work and frustration. I think finding slip covers is impossible because there are sooo many different styles, thickness, etc etc... For a pretty penny, there are websites who will do a custom one for you if you send them your original pads. Might be worth googling - I found quite a few back when I was looking, until I decided to reupholster my own.

  • Well, ours is brand new and I don't want it reupholstered.  I just want a cover that I can throw in the washing machine when (if) it winds up covered in cat hair.

  • ah, I guess that makes sense! I doubt you can find a slipcover, but if you do, PLEASE let me know. i'd love one, too! in the meantime, use scotchguard, blankets, and have fur lifters on hand! :)
  • Ya I have this very small blanket that came with a basket we got that is just draped over the ottoman, and a long quilt that someone made for us on the glider itself.  The problem with the quilt is that it doesn't stay in place.

Maybe I can just get some cute fabric from the craft store, cut it to fit the chair, put a seam on the edges and attach something that I can tie it to the chair with?  The only concern with that is my crazy cats thing that any type of hanging string is a toy lol.  Ughhhh!!!!

  • I've been making slip covers for ours.  I just traced the outside of the cushion and then added about 2" all around.  Then sewed it up leaving one side open with a hem and some velcro to keep it closed.  It's not that hard at all.
