Fan in nursery

I'm adamant about having the ceiling fan on in the nursery whenever my little guy is sleeping, as I know it cuts down on the SIDS risk.

But it's getting to be winter, and that fan blowing down is cold! I'm thinking of getting an oscillating fan to put on the floor instead to move the air around ... this will be just as effective, right? Or should I stick with the ceiling fan?

Re: Fan in nursery

  • We're in the same boat.  We are getting a small fan to put in the corner.  I think as long as there is some air movement, it should be fine.

  • If you want a ceiling fan but don't want the cold - you can always reverse the blades on them so that air is getting pulled up and not being pushed down onto LO =)
  • Change the direction it rotates. If it sucks the air up, it's for winter use, if it blows it down it's for summer.

Most ceiling fans have a switch to reverse the direction of the blades (pushing the warmer air down)- no need to actually flip the blades. But, flipping the blades on a fan that doesn't have a switch will work, too.

    This : )

  • look for a switch on the ceiling fan to see if you can reverse the fan so that it pulls air up instead of blows it down

that's what I did, and  it worked beautifully to circulate the air without blowing on the baby, you can't even feel the air circulating (I keep it on low)
