Sick DS and pregnant, what would you do, I am torn!

I have had a cough and congestion for two weeks now.  I saw my OB last week and she said its probably just a virus.  My son has had a cough for a few days now but complained last night his throat hurt.  I looked in his mouth and his tonsils have white pus on them.  I called pedi today and they are screening calls because they are swamped with swine flu in the office.  I am 19 weeks pregnant.  Do I take him to a doctor and risk it or just hope its a virus and not strep and let it run its course...

What would you do.  Even if family brings him he still brings it home to me.  i hate this.  No one will call in an antibiotic...bad practice they say!

take him!  you'll be totally fine-- just wear a mask if you want and wash the heck out of your hands.

It is bad practice to call in an antibiotic without knowing it's something that needs one.

It could be hand, foot, and mouth or just cocsackie virus (my kids had this seperate times, one time it was just in mouth and once was in mouth and on hands and feet). Does he have a fever? I guess it's just best that they see, though, as strep isn't something you really want to play with.

Take him in, white puss on his tonsils, sounds like strep.

Take him in. If it's strep and it's not treated it can turn into something MUCH MUCH worse! I believe my friends daughter got scarlet fever b/c she had untreated strep throat...or something severe like that (it was 6 years ago now so my memory is a little foggy) however; after watching her lose all her motor skills and speech I will NEVER mess around with strep throat again.

Take him.  Just dont' let him play with the toys/books and wash up really well when you get home.  Hope you both feel better soon.
