Knitter/crocheters: Help me pick yarn colors!

I want to knit DS a sweater that has some yellow in it.  He LOVES yellow but honestly I find it kind of an ugly color....

 bright lemon yellow

What colors would you use with it?  I am thinking a striped sweater to tone down the yellow but if you have a great knitting pattern I am open to other ideas.  Here are some that stood out to me.  How many total colors would you do?  3 maybe?  I am thinking red, yellow, blue would be too much with the primary colors.  IDK... help!

 Vibrant medium red

 Medium blueish greenish

 Lime heather

 "bright as the dessert sky"

do you want it to be bright?  or what about blue, a gray, and a yellow and then doing a random stripe pattern?

I vote this yellow, with gray & blue stripey like kap said ;-)

I would do a 2-stripe with the butter yellow color and the Kamchatka Seamoss.

I like the buttery yellow with Zarya fog (heather that has bits of yellow) and maybe the teal.
