Christmas photo cards

Where have you ordered from in the past?  I'm excited to be able to do this for the first time this year!

Re: Christmas photo cards

  • I posted this on FB but I wanted to rave about the seller on here...

lukecommasara on etsy has really cute cards, great prices, and is QUICK!  We had her create our card last year, Ethan's birth announcements, and Ethan's Christening invites.  You can have her print them or she'll send you a jpeg and you can have them printed anywhere.  It turns out to be pretty inexpensive that way.

  • I use Shutterfly. Here's the photo I used for last year's Christmas card. I added "Merry Christmas! Wishing you a ball of fun this holiday season."

  • I am looking forward to being able to do this this year!  I'm getting in touch with a friend of DH's who does photography to do some Christmas/family photos, and I'll see where she recommends getting them done.  I was worried that I was too early with this stuff, but I guess not!

Halloween is over tomorrow, so we can officially begin planning for Christmas :)  I'll hold off on the decorations until Thanksgiving though!!  Isn't it so fun experiencing holidays with a child now?  I feel like a kid again!

  • Not sure if you're interested in DIY or not, but you can do your own in PowerPoint and print them at Costco for less than 40-cents each.

That's what I did for our birth announcements, in my siggy, and the baptism invite here (sorry about the fuzzy quality on this one - I don't have the high-res image on hand right now).  Just found designs I liked, made my own version on a slide (sized to 5x7), saved the whole thing as a jpeg and uploaded it to Costco's Web site for printing.

That way I can take inspirations from others, but use the fonts, colors, layouts, etc. I like.

  • Can you explain how you did it in powerpoint?

Costco also has some Christmas cards on their site that you can add photos to . . the price is $15 for 50 which I thought was really great.  I think this is the route we're going to go this year.

You can download or purchase free digital scrapbook stuff (papers, embellishments, etc.) online.  If you Google "Free digital scrapbook" you should get a bunch of hits.  I've downloaded stuff from this site.  They have a bunch of free stuff and a lot of kits that cost $3 or less.  Once you've downloaded them, you'll have to unzip the folder to access the files.  Then you just open PowerPoint and resize the page to 3-4x the size you actually want your card to be (ex. if you want to make a 5x7 card, you'd make your powerpoint slide 15x21 or 20x28).  This allows for your jpeg to be saved at a high enough resolution for printing. Otherwise your text and images can be blurry.  Then just open your pictures in powerpoint (pictures and digital scrapbook stuff) and arrange however you like.  When you're finished go to "Save as" and you'll see a pull down menu I believe right below the place you enter the file name where you can select what file type you want to save it as.  This is where you'll choose JPEG.  The JPEG can then be uploaded to whatever printing site you'd like.

I also recommend going to Etsy or just doing a Google search for card designs so you can get a good idea of what you're interested in.  I'm not really creative on my own, but I've had good success with modifying other people's designs or building off a basic idea.  Good luck!

  • Awesome! Thank you so much!
  • In PowerPoint:

I set the dimensions of the slide to the dimensions of the photo I want (5x7), then use text boxes, pictures, lines, graphics, etc. to make the card.  Then I select everything on the screen, right-click, and select "Save as Picture."  You have to change the format to jpeg when saving, but the image is as high quality as you see on the screen, because you set the dimensions of the slide, first.

I'm also a big fan of dafont.com for fancy and out-of-the-ordinary fonts.

I can e-mail you my birth announcement slide, if it would help, although the fonts will come out funny unless you have them all downloaded on your pc.

  • i have always used kodakgallery and have loved it!  great prices too
