Marina? (with clicky)

I can see from the poll in my siggy that the majority of people gave Marina a thumbs down.  I don't want to pick a name based entirely on what others think, but then again if most people think a name is really horrible I don't want to give it to my daughter.  So, what are your feelings on the name Marina?

Also, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it!

I said it's okay. I automatically think of a boat as well as a character in Guiding Light. NMS but if you and DH like it, go for it.

I have a co-worker named Marina who is in her mid-forties.  If I didn't, I might think of it simply as a place to store your boat!

I think of the lake and docking our boat. What about Marin? or even Marianne?

It's an OK name.  I think of a Russian woman I know whose name is Marina.  As well as the actress Marina Sirtis from Star Trek: TNG.

It's not a name we are dead set on, just considering it, but like I said if most people see it or hear it and think "ehh, bad name" I'd rather not use it

I grew up with a girl named Maurina, which I think I like better.  Only b/c I immediately think of boats with Marina.

My nieces name is Marina, and I have to say at first I wasn't a big fan. I now have a cute little face to put with the name, so it has totally grown on me! You need to do what you think is right, and if you love this name, then you should use it no matter what others think.

This was my thought process on this.

1) Isn't that where boats go?

2) It sounds WAY too similar to a birth control.

I think the connection with a boat dock is tough to get past, but beside that I kinda like it. ?We've been considering Marin, which is a nice but close alternative. ?

Let me preface this by saying that I always try to think of the ways that a name can be used against a child in school. I have no idea WHY I thought of this, and I am a little embarassed to admit that I did, BUT....

I worry that boys might want to "dock their boat" in the Marina.

I just mentioned this name to DH last night. I said, "I think it's pretty, too bad it's a 'word' and not a name."

However, she is one of the Fresh Beats/Jump Arounds on Nick/Nick Jr.

I'm jumping in a little late here, but wanted to say that I love this name. It is not only a place for boats, but is a bona fide name too. It's actually a classic Russian name, but works in many languages. I think the association with water, the sea and boats is a nice thing about this name. We seriously considered it, but have a friend who named her baby this, so it's out.

I like the name, one of my closest friends in high school was a Marina.  I think it's pretty and it is a name, not just a word!

I've always loved it! I knew a girl from a Filipino background named Marina, and I've always thought it was a beautiful name. We're on team blue, otherwise it would probably be on my list!
