Babies on the Brain

From where did you order nursery furniture?

Also, if you don't mind telling me what line it is...

I want to get an idea of styles and price.

Re: From where did you order nursery furniture?

  • we went to a local furniture store that blair and a couple others had recommended - we got Stanley Young America 4 Seasons collection - crib for 399 and double width dresser for 699 which is a good deal for that collection. I love it and it all converts - we did have to pay extra for the changing table topper that screwed on top of the dresser and the conversion kit for the crib to change it to toddler bed and full size bed but all in all I think it was still only 1500 with shipping and set up.

  • Ours was hand-me-down, but many friends of ours ordered furniture from JCPenney. I know Baby Bargains doesn't rate them high, but they all had good luck and really liked their furniture. I think they had the Tori Collection, but I"m not sure. Sometimes (aroundt he holidays) you can get free shipping and that saves at least $100 if not more.

  • I got this one from Buy Buy Baby:

    https://www.westwoodbaby.com/brookline.html

It was between the one above or this one from Behrs:

    https://www.munirefurniture.com/savoy_03.htm

I really liked the collection from Behrs, but it would have been at least $1000 more expensive and I wouldn't have been able to get the hutch because of the expense (I got the full collection from Buy Buy Baby).

  • Babies R Us.  I want to say Baby Italia is the crib and Jardine for the changing table/dresser.
  • I have never ordered nursery furniture, but I wanted to comment simply to thank you for not ending a sentence in a preposition.

  • We also ordered Westwood from Buy Buy Baby (we got the Stratton crib and dresser). Buy Buy Baby sends out 20% off coupons so we used that. And Baby Bargains gave Westwood an A. I thought that for the price ($449-crib, $499 dresser minus 20%), it was beautiful, durable furniture.

We also ordered the convertible rails so not only can it be converted to a toddle bed and day bed, but also with the rails can be converted into an adult bed as well.

    OMG ME TOO.

    English major here!

  • Where can I find these rankings?

I want to check and see how IKEA is rated.  They have a set I really, really like...a lot of our furniture is from there since it was all I could afford right out of college.

I'm not too worried about putting it together.  Just more about the safety I guess.

Me too!  And while I like writing, linguistics and semantics was always my favorite.

  • BRU.  We have the Pinehurst convertable crib that does not have the drop down side.  We also bought the dresser/changer combo with the hutch on top.   The stain is Espresso.

    LOVE.

    I 100% recommend this book:

    https://www.windsorpeak.com/babybargains/news.html

It helped me pick out all of the items that have safety and durability concerns.

  • We have this one in white.  I liked the simple lines.  I cannot remember where we got it, but we ordered it online.

Instead of a changing table, we got this dresser from IKEA and put a changing pad on top.

Rocker was from JCPenney online.  It is a Best Chair, but I don't see it online anymore.

    Oh thanks!

I just looked on Consumer Reports, and the IKEA crib has the highest safety rating!  Sweet!  It is only $100.00...and it converts.

  • a lot of girls on 2nd tri seem to love the Ikea furniture so if you like it, I'd go with that! It just didn't match our house decor at all otherwise I probably would have.
  • Preppy - best local stores in Atlanta.  If I were you, I'd definitely go to the first 3 stores on this list if only to look.

Precious Cargo in Vinings (prices start at about $500 though) All top brands like Ragazzi and Young America - Great store though and lots of personal service.  Overall very expensive though.

New Baby Products on ChesireBridge - Great store for strollers and other items as well - Has lots of floor specials.

Georgia Baby - up 85 in Norcross - HUGE store - carries Munire, Young America, etc.  Great store.

    Other local stores:

The Baby's Room Norcross - I am ordering from here this weekend since they give a 10% discount for the zip code that I live in (I live across town from here).  I am getting Munire Furniture.

The Baby's Room Kennesaw - great stroller selection.  Also carries Ragazzi and Young America

Note:  Most of these stores start at about $350 and up and average around $600-700 for cribs.  Otherwise JCPenney, BRU, Burlington Baby Depot and Ikea are going to be the most reasonable options with JCP having the best quality.

And if you want to ogle over cute but expensive baby stuff go to B. Braithwaite over near Bacchanalia/Taqueria Del Sol.   They don't have much in cribs, but do have good gifts, strollers, clothes, toys, etc.

I am just trying to decide how much we want to spend.  I think we're going to move back to the Northeast next year, and I want to move as little furniture as possible.  So I am trying to decide whether to spend a lot and hope to sell it or spend a little and donate it.

  • My parents neighbor had sold the rest of her furniture, but she has a very nice crib for sale.  Her nurseries have been very cute.   I considered buying her stuff, but we didn't want white.  It is in great shape.

It has been used by 2 kids, but it is a great brand.  Might be a good option to look on Craigslist, especially if you are moving.

  • I ordered my nursery furniture from Lone Star Baby.  It was the Munire Essex in rubbed black.  They had it 30% off so we went ahead and purchased it a couple of weeks ago.  It is rated very high in Baby Bargains.

We definitely want white.  I'll have to check Craig's List some.

At the risk of making enemies (hopefully not, 'cause I love you girls in all your snarky glory), I must state that the prohibition on ending sentences with a preposition is a complete myth. There is no such prohibition, and sentence-ending prepositions have been standard in all forms of writing for centuries. The learned folks at Language Log debunk myths like this fairly often, and their explanations are always well-researched, for example: https://itre.cis.upenn.edu/~myl/languagelog/archives/004454.html

(I admit, I learned this myth in my high school and college English classes, but now that I'm out in the real world as a professional copy editor, I'm finding that many "rules" I was taught are more like old wives' tales of grammar).
