::: SJBride Re: Portland::

Hey Char, I'm flying up to Portland on Sunday.. by my lonesome, for a conference. Got any tips on places to eat? I'm staying at The Governor Hotel (got a killer deal) which is near Powells and will be at the convention center most days, although I intend to ditch the conference at least a few hours/day.

    Sorry - that's what I get for drive-by reading on posts...I totally missed that part.  Hope you have a good conference!

  • That's right in the middle of downtown, so you can pretty walk in any direction and find something fabulous. DH recommended the VQ (Veritable Quandary).  I've never been there, but he says they have good burgers. And if you can get to the Pearl District at all - I highly recommend it.  There's Deschuetes Brewing and Papa Haydn - a cute dessert resturant.

     Have fun!

  • I'm jealous of both of you! L - you've been to Powell's before, right? It's one of my favorite places in the world. I can spend all day there just browsing through the zillions of books.

    When I was in Portland a couple of months ago, we went to a fabulous restaurant for breakfast one day called Mother's Bistro. It would be a great place for a long, relaxing, solo breakfast. It's not far from the waterfront, where the Saturday Market is held (on Sundays too). If you go to the market, make sure to get a hot cup of Nepalese chai tea from Kathmandu Cafe - it's the best chai I've ever had. Have fun up there!
