Pregnant after a Loss

Bassinet??

We'll have baby sleep with us in our room for the first few weeks.  Our bedroom is literally across the hall from the nursery so we plan to transition baby to the crib pretty quick.  So do I need a bassinet AND a pack n play or just the PNP?  The bassinets I'm seeing online are either 1) ugly or 2) expensive.  I can't justify spending that much on something to just use for a few weeks.  What are you guys doing?

Re: Bassinet??

  • I'll tell you our experience first time around with DD. We had a bassinet in our room, but only because we got it free.  Otherwise, the PNP will be absolutely fine and was what we intended to use until we got the bassinet.  We transitioned DD to her crib for nighttime sleeping at about 3-4 weeks and she took her naps in her crib from day one at home.

  • We don't really have the space in our room for a PNP, so we have registered for the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper.  The nursery is upstairs... so we intend to keep the LO in our bedroom for the first few months, possibly as many as 6, before transitioning to the nursery.

  • we got a bassinet off of CL for $50 and probably could've found one cheaper but this one is cute and has a mobile and is in great condition. Had we not gotten the cheaper bassinet, we would've just hoped for the PNP.  this way, we don't have to wait for the shower (4 weeks before due date) and don't have to run out last minute for it. So if we do get the PNP we'll keep it in the LR so baby has a place in her room, our room, and the LR.

  • We registered for the Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper.  I originally wanted a pretty wooden bassinet, but the weight limit on them is 15 lbs for most.  My niece was 16lbs at 4 months (she's a pretty big baby though) so if I wanted our baby to stay with us longer than 4 months, I wanted one with a higher weight limit.  The weight limit for the Arm's Reach is 23 lbs.  I believe the weight limit for the bassinet feature of the PNP is usually 15lbs too.
