How do you wet your cloth wipes?

I need to start using them again with DD. I've been avoiding them b/c I keep wondering if they were causing her yeast rashes. My reasoning is b/c I would put wipes solution on them, put them in an old Huggies wipes container and use them. They would sit in there for up to a week (I'd make like three containers full at a time) and I wondered if maybe I was breeding yeast in there. So...what do you use for wipes solution and how do you get it on the wipes?

Re: How do you wet your cloth wipes?

  • I just use a spray bottle.  I've been using a couple drops of babywash, couple drops TTO and fill with water.  It's been working great on DS.  I spray the wipe until it's as wet as I want and then use.

Stupid question...where do you get TTO?

  • I have a stack of dry wipes sitting next to an old wipes container that I fill up about 1/3 with plain water.  Dunk one when I need it.  Easy.

Now I can do that :-)

  • I use a squirt bottle, like a peri bottle. I keep a small 3oz one in the diaper bag and an 8oz one on the changing table. We just lay the dry wipe down and squirt it with the bottle. I do it one-handed all the time while I hold baby legs with the other hand. It works well for us. I started out using a spray bottle for the diaper bag and would spray right on his bum. I think I just felt like it wasn't wet enough and might be too much friction on his skin.

  • For on the go, I use my water bottle to wet his wipes since I always have it with me.  We almost always change him in the car.

  • A friend of mine who is a massage therapist got a lot of her oils from CamdenGrey.com. She said their quality was good and their prices great. I bought my TTO from there. I got 4 small bottles (maybe 2oz bottles) and we've gone through 1.5 of them. We don't use it in our wipe solution anymore because I think Harris was a little sensitive to it. But we use it in the diaper pail.

ETA: I went to check and I ordered 4oz, so they were 1oz bottles. It was inexpensive. You can buy 2oz at Target for $8 I think. My friend said something about "quality" at camdengrey, but I don't know how I'd ever know the difference. She was at times fanatical, so it may be that it doesn't really matter. However, I got 4oz for just over $10 at CG, so it was significantly cheaper.

Whole Foods usually.  We also have the nations oldest health food store nearby so I get it there sometimes as well because it's closer.  And my local Trader Joes has it as well.

It really matters what oils you use if they are going to be applied topically to skin.  You want therapeutic grade whenever possible.  I haven't checked out that site yet but your friend is right about quality being very important.

I have a wipe solution that I use and I put a little bit in a spray bottle and fill with water and a few drops of an oil that has antibacterial properties to keep it fresh and clean.  We spray down each wipe as we use it.

Same here.  I keep a spray bottle filled with water and a squirt of baby soap and spray that right on DS when he poops.  Pees just get water on a wipe from the peri bottle.

  • I keep my wipes in a basket on top of the toilet and wet them in the sink on the way to a diaper change.  I have a toddler, so we only average one poop a day.  That may change when my new baby gets here.
