Pregnant after a Loss

Heels

Hey ladies

One coworker approached me today to say I should not wear hills while pg bc it's not good for the baby.

I'm 5'1 and Dh is 6'4. I only have heels. No flats. can anyone explain why are they bad?

Re: Heels

  • your coworker is el-nutzo! Heels can be hard for YOU near the end, especially if you have swelling and have trouble with your balance (although if you wear them all the time that shouldn't be a problem either) but it shouldn't have any effect on the baby.

  • They idea is that you can trip easier in heels. I had a nurse tell me about falling in heels at 20ish weeks PG and she lost the baby. It's nothing to do with the shoes themselves. Honestly, I know a lot of women swear they're more agile in heels than flats! I'm 6' tall so I'm useless in heels lol. And welcome to the world of unsolicited advice... it's only just begun!

  • I have never heard this, in fact I have heard kinda the opposite. My doc said a shoe with a slight heel is better for you because it takes pressure off your lower back. The only thing I can think of heels being bad is that once you get really far a long your center of gravity is all askew and I guess heels can increase your chances of falling. But I've walked in them just fine and my boss wore them throughout her whole pregnancy and her and baby were just fine!

  • I could see how you might want to stay away from super tall ones (great....basically every pair of shoes I own)....but I think they'd be fine!

  • I say strut your stuff, sexy mama! :D Of course, that's coming from someone who doesn't wear heels anyway. ;)

  • I still wear heels when the occasion arises.  I did notice last week though after wearing my 4 inch heels to the SYTYCD show that the next day my feet were swollen... but that went away in less than 24 hours.

  • I wore heels all the way up until 34 weeks, when my feet were just too swollen to squeeze into them. As pp's said, you'll just want to be conscientious of your ability to balance in them--perhaps trade stillettos for a sturdier heel. But dangerous for the baby? No, that's silly.

  • Ask your co-worker to explain why they are bad, and I bet they won't be able to!
