Pregnant after a Loss

thoughts on a name

Leander (boy)

It's different, but not off the wall...NN ander, lee, andy...DH is "intrigued" by it, I am not sure. Anyone ever hear of it? I saw it in a baby book.

  • Sorry, NMS. I just can't do names that require an explanation like "I read it somewhere" or "it's a character in a book" rather than oh yeah, I know someone with that name.

I kind of feel this way about it too.  I'm more of a traditional name person so the NN Andy makes it better

  • This reminds me of a Greek male name "Leandros". It is pretty unique even in Greece. I feel like it is a bit of a "heavy" name for a little boy.
  • That's my FIL's name (it's a family name).  He HATES it, said he was teased mercilessly etc, and he never goes by it. When my older BIL was born he was the first one in the family not to have Leander anywhere in his name.  I personally love it because of the story or Hero and Leander.  But FIL specifically asked that our little guy doesn't have it anywhere in his name as he's afraid that LO will get teased.

  • The name reminds me of Oleander, which is a toxic shrub.  How about a variation like "Liam Andrew"?

  • I actually really like it! I don't think I'd use it, only because it looks like a name that people might mispronounce and I tend to stay away from those, but I think it's unique, masculine, but not weird.

  • It makes me think of coriander or oleander.

  • I live in Leander! Its not the funnest place in the world so I'm sure I just don't like it because I grew up in this crappy town!
  • I don't think I'd be adventurous enough to use it myself, but it's not bad.  I immediately think about the background myth (tragic love story) of Hero & Leander, too.
