Re: Gymboree b-day party?

  • My sister works at Little Gym (very similar) and does the parties all the time.  She says it's really over priced (I think around $250) for what you get.  They provide the venue and that's about it.  I think they might decorate. It's fun that the kids can free play in the gym, but I think it's better to have instruction at that age.  I guess if you don't want to deal with the set up, clean up and entertaining it's great! : )

  • We did for DS's 2nd bday.  We got a great deal....ours was $150 for up to 12 kids, unlimited adults.  We were already gymboree members so that may be why we got it so cheap.  It was 2 hours, one instructor who led activites, some free play time and cake/ice cream/present time.  We provided all the food/paper products so it was very cheap.

It was well worth the money not to have to have all those kids at my house!

THe Little Gym is really different from Gymboree so don't let that deter you.  We did a free trial class there and did not like it nearly as much as Gymboree.  The equipment is intimidating for a young child (or the parent of a young child!)

  • We had DD's 2nd b-day there. $200 (non-members were $225) for 1 hour of play with an instructor and 30 min for cake (instructor cut cake and served it). Up to 12 kids. We had kids ranging from 19 months to 5 years and they all loved it.  They gave all the kids gift bags and gave DD a Gymbo shirt.

The 2 things I didn't like about it were:  (and these could vary at each location)

    1. The times available: 12-1:30 (feel obligated to serve lunch), 2-3:30 (during nap time), and 4-5:30 (feel obligated to serve dinner)

    2. As stated above, I felt like I needed to serve a meal, but they wouldn't let me have a meal on-site.  I could have cake, veggie tray, etc. (snack foods), but no meal. So I was forced to either have people back over to my house or to a park to eat.  I might have felt more obligated than others to serve a meal because I had 3 of 5 families driving about 1-2 hours for the party though.
