I'm not a Sarah Palin fan by any stretch, but Levi Johnston isn't exactly the picture of credibility.  He's desperate for attention - to the point that he's going to pose nude in Playgirl.  So unless there is a tape of her saying it, I have to give her the benefit of the doubt on this.

To be fair, it's his word against hers.  No one has ever heard her say that (but him supposedly) and she has done a lot to bring awareness to children with special needs.

Like I said, part of me wouldn't put it past her because of some of the asinine things she's said in the past, but part of me wants to think no mother could ever call her child something like that.

As much of a trainwreck that I think she can be at times, I want to believe that a mother would never say such a thing about her child. Plus, Levi is not exactly a saint and has been milking that gravy train for far too long now. So, I'm considering the source and choosing not to belive it.

Do you really believe Levi? Really? It looks like he's happy to have the spotlight, no? And just in time for her book to come out.

He said the same thing in a Vanity Fair interview last month so this isn't news to me. (which had photos of him in designer suits, I am sure he's loving the attention).

I'm not sure I give Levi credit for being sophisticated enough to realize that calling someone "retarded" is offensive.  He's a loser, no doubt, but I also wouldn't put it past Palin.  

She can raise awareness all she wants in the public's eye and I'm sure she's got handlers who tell her not to call her child "retarded" in public, but in private? I'm not so sure.

yes, the preferred description is developmentally disabled.  yes, previously individuals were referred to as mentally retarded.  that is A LOT different than calling your baby "a little retard" or whatever the claim is.

Sure, there are most likely posters here who thought of or would have aborted their child, having known the were developmentally disabled. And, yes - it was socially acceptable to call Down Syndrome children (and others with disabilities) "retarded" until recently.

However, I  don't see the correlation. Just b/c a woman chooses to end a pregnancy doesn't mean that she'd also refer to said aborted child as a "retard," had she had him/her.

I seriously doubt there is a woman on this board that would refer to her developmentally disabled child as "my little retard." Give me a break.
