Pregnant after a Loss

Quick question re: Sleep Position

Hi, ladies. I'm getting ready to go to bed and I'm a back-only sleeper, typically. I have a lot of trouble with my legs when I try to sleep on my sides. Now I know that doctors all say that later in pregnancy, it's best to sleep on your left side. I'm just curious as to when it becomes necessary. I've had a couple of nights where it felt like I was having trouble breathing on my back lately. Is that normal? I may have to just invest in a nice body pillow soon. Hmm
NOPE.

Re: Quick question re: Sleep Position

  • How far long are you? I had to start sleeping on my side once I started poking out. I am a stomach person. But yeah the doc told me also not to sleep on the back, it's dangerous to you. Maybe you should get in the habit of trying now? Just depends how far you are.

  • I'm fourteen weeks. I didnt think that it was necessary until a few weeks later. And I'm so forgetful, I didnt remember to ask my doctor about it yesterday!
    NOPE.
  • pretty much your body will let you know when sleeping on your back will no longer work.  If I sleep on my back I can't walk...it's really bad on my hips.  I think it started to be an issue around 20 weeks or so.  I suggest getting a body pillow, it makes side laying positions much more comfortable.

  • I think 17 weeks is when it becomes important.

I still end up sleeping on my back and my sides. I use about 5 pillows though, and keep my top half semi-upright, so I'm not sure if that helps the back issues or not. I try to mostly stay on my left side, but if my knees or hips hurt to much, I switch to either my right side or my back for a while, just to adjust some of the pressure.

I did a body pillow for a while, but I didn't like it.

  • I'm 15 weeks and starting last week sleeping on my stomach became uncomfortable.  I would get a weird crampy feeling in my lower belly so I take that as my body telling me to STOP.  Back sleeping is probably a little different but you probably should get used to it now because in just a few weeks you will have to stop.  Get a body pillow.  I swear that thing is my BFF.  I've also found sleeping on my right side is easier for me, for whatever reason.  I know they say left side is best - but I figured as long as I'm on my side and not my back or stomach that's progress!  I wrap my legs and arms around the body pillow when I sleep - last night I swear I never moved.  Woke up in the same position I went to sleep.
