npr Would this gross you out?

Say you have a rental property in which you provide all linens.  Wouldn't you buy towels and sheets in white so you could bleach them?  I mean, how else could you clean them properly in such a situation?

The inlaws have a lakehouse that they rent out and it bugs the heck out of me that mil doesn't use bleach to clean the linens.  All the towels are an off white/almond color and the sheets are floral/patterned.  So, it's obvious that they can't be bleached.

This grosses me out.  My H doesn't think anything of it, but I suppose that's a guy for you.  Perhaps it's just me being a germ-a-phobe....

  • Yep, I sure would!  In fact, I'd use a linen service that picks up and delivers clean linens between each guest's stay.

  • Yes - that is nasty.  If I were you and had to stay there, I'd bring my own linens.
  • No, it wouldn't bother me.

My family rents a lake house each summer for the entire extended family and I've never once worried that the sheets/blankets/towels aren't white. I'm totally fine using clean linens that have been washed with soap and hot water.

FWIW, I'm also the total opposite of a germaphobe. ;-)

  • You can add a tiny amount of bleach to the wash water to disinfect.  My sister always did this with her kitchen towels and they were green and yellow.  I think it might lighten the pattern on the sheets a little...but not much.  I doubt it would do anything to the almond colored towels.
