The down side of living in the country (not for the faint of heart)

I grew up a city girl but now we live in the country and this life is generally great, but there are some parts that still take me by surprise.  For instance, 10 minutes ago our next door(1/2 mile away) neighbor called.  His dog was hit in the road in front of our house.  The dog is in pretty bad shape, I guess.  Our neighbor asked if DH would take his hunting rifle out and put the dog out of it's misery.  He also said if it ever happens to one of our dogs, he will return the favor, but he just can't handle doing it himself to his own dog.  Seriously?

So I am holed up in my bedroom keeping DD occupied so she doesn't see DH come back in the house with his gun and ask questions.

things I miss about the city:  good thai food and 24 hour vet service.

  • We live in the city and came home from the playground just in time to see the vet bringing my neighbors dead dog out of the house.  DD was like, "What's wrong with Ms. Sara, what's wrong will Tilly?"
  • We live the same life...lol.
