Pregnant after a Loss

Stupid question.... But i cant stop thinking about it

How do you know that your eating "enough"?? I have had the great pleasure of getting horrible m/s, and I am worried i am not eating enough. I am taking my p/n vitamins and eating like a pig when i can. Some days i just cat stomach anything other then a popsicle and oatmeal until like 12:30-1:00. Am I starving my baby or am I just being a crazy parinoid mommy? TIA

  • I don't think that's a stupid question - however, I've read that you only need about 100-200 more calories per day during the first trimester. My friend's doctor also told her not to worry because the baby will take the nutrients that are needed regardless of diet, So, if the baby needs protein  but you're not eating enough you may notice that your fingernails get weak, etc. Good luck!

  • I didn't have m/s, but I lost my brother when I was around 24 weeks. I lost 7 of the 13 pounds I had gained to that point in one week and couldn't really eat for over a month without getting diarrhea (my body's normal reaction to stress). I have only gained about 2 or 3 of those pounds back to date - so I'm up a total of 9 1/2 at 34 weeks. My baby's abdomen was measuring slightly behind at my final u/s last week, so they told me to eat more and exercise less - but they weren't that concerned about it (don't have to have any other u/s or anything). My dr. isn't worried about it because everything else is measuring right on, as is my belly - so I think it would take you really starving yourself to cause any kind of problem. The baby takes what it needs from you, so you are the one who suffers if you don't get enough - not really the baby unless you just aren't eating at all. I have trouble eating a decent amount of food, so my doc suggested things like peanut butter on an apple or ice cream that are higher calorie, but still have some nutritional value (protein and dairy). GL and hopefully you'll feel better soon and can eat normally!
  • First off I am sorry to hear about your brother. Thank you for your answers. Like i said when i can eat i try to make up for it, and eat lots of healthy food. Veggies, fruit, pb&j lots of pasta :)  all that good stuff. I just worry because sometimes its  half way through the day before i eat. But i guess the baby does not care when i eat, as long as it gets something. Thank you again

  • I was really concerned about this as well. I had m/s till 1 weeks. The thing that reassured me was that our first u/s at 7+ weeks we were measuring ahead, and when we had our second one at 18 weeks, we were measuring for the exact same EDD. So, even though I was barely eating anything, LO still grew right on track where she should be!
