The vaccine is still in very limited supply in my area, and only being offered at select locations across town, at different days & times. The place giving shots last week was so over-run with people, that cars were parking on the side of the road & people were walking a mile just to get there!
I figured I would just wait until it became available at the OB's office. At my check-up today though, the OB told me that 33% of all PG women who contract H1N1 end up hospitalized & intubated/placed on a ventilator. He encouraged me to get the vaccine ASAP, wherever possible!
Is anyone else finding it this difficult to get the vaccine?
Re: Dr. encouraging H1N1 shot
Yeah, there was a trio of posts about this yesterday, starting with my vent about not being able to find it in my area. I think it is an issue in a lot of communities.
It worries me to hear about the complications that pg women can have. But until it is available, I guess I will just have to try to be ultra conscientious about washing hands, not touching my face, and staying away from people who could have it.
I hope you find it in your area soon. Good luck!
yes, my OB was supposed to have it by mid October but they didn't have it yet when I went in last. and as I posted above, now I know I've been exposed to someone who has it - so it sucks. I wish they would just get the thing out there for us so we could be protected. ugh.
It boggles me that some states are giving out the vaccine this way, making people wait in line all day and not really triaging for whom the vaccine is most necessary. I'm sorry. It must be so frustrating.
I have an appointment on Thursday, and I'm hoping my OB's office has the vaccine then. They were supposed to get it in this week.
I'm in the Cleveland area (my doctor is through the Cleveland Clinic) and he told me to get the shot wherever I can find it. So, I just got done waiting in line for 4 hours to get my shot! It's crazy!. I was talking to a woman who is also pregnant (goes to the same practice as I do) and she was told that our doctor(s) are not guaranteed enough vaccines for all the pregnant women they see.
Check with your health department to see where they're giving it (the shots they give will be free). It's really sporadic, though, where you can find a place giving them.
