Pregnant after a Loss

is this tacky?

so all this H1N1 has turned me into a hand washing /germ phobe !

It doesn't help that I teach 2nd grade in a school of 2nd & 3rd graders !!

We had 30 kids out sick today - 3 are from my class with "flu like symptoms" and my classroom aide has been fighting a really bad cold for the past few weeks and is out with a fever for the next couple of days -

I have parent/teacher conferences on Thursday with 18 sets of parents -

would it be tacky if I put out a couple bottles of hand sanitizer outside the classroom with a little sign that says " Please help to keep our classroom healthy"

Just the idea of shaking that many hands (some of them with sick kiddos at home...is making me nervous!)

any other ideas?

Re: is this tacky?

  • I don't think that's tacky at all. It sounds like a very good idea and since there's been so many kids out sick I don't see a problem with it.

  • Honestly, I see this so much nowadays that I wouldn't think twice about it. I think it would be fine! Good luck with the conferences!

  • No its not tacky to have a bottle of hand sanitizer out.

What would be tacky is if you had one in your pocket and after you shake hands with anyone pulling it out and using it. (I do this but not while talking to people I keep one in my purse and use it after they leave the room.)

  • Not at all!

That stuff is everywhere right now! I dont think people would give it a second thought.  It is very important for you to do whatever you can right now to stay healthy.

  • I think the parents would probably appreciate it.  I work with kids too, DH and I own a kids gym and we make sure all the kids use hand sanitizer before and after class is over.  The parents appreciate that we're trying to minimize the spread of germs.
  • I don't think that's tacky at all. I think it's something we're seeing everywhere right now and makes perfect sense. Do it!

  • I think this is a really good idea... conferences or not, I'd do it until all this flu and cold stuff is on the way out!
