Pregnant after a Loss

Kick counts....

How do YOU do them & how often?  My OB said he doesn't like the actual kick count method - but for his moms to be to just be generally aware of baby's movement....  Which is fine & dandy, but I did that last time - and Jack was a crazy kicker until the last minute.

How do you do yours?  When?

Re: Kick counts....

  • I only do them if I haven't been conscious of him moving throughout the day (hiccups count). So I haven't done them in a while, but when I do I lay on my side, turn the tv off, and just wait. If I don't feel anything in 15-20 minutes, I will start drinking water. I was also told to have some juice before laying down to get him moving.

  • Thanks....  Is there a point in which you say okay - movement has been less, I am going in or calling the Dr? I'm very fortunate that this little guy is super active (like his angel brother), but I am nervous about MAKING SURE the activity level is the same...  NST's will be done 2X/wk, but won't start for 5 - 6 more weeks...

  • I don't do them either - I just know the times LO is active and so far, he has kept that pattern so I haven't really had to worry. He moves enough to reassure me every day.
  • Okay....  So, it sounds like you girls do what my OB told me to do.  Guess I have to just try to forget what happened last time & realize this is a different pregnancy, and everything will be okay - as long as I have a general idea of his level of activity (which, again - is SO often & very predictible).

    Thanks girls!

  • My OB said not to worry about them until 32 weeks and just to call if I don't feel movement within 24 hours for now.

I'm sorry- I'm sure that's impossible. But glad to hear that LO is an active little guy :) W/ DD, I fell at around 24 wks and called the dr. after not feeling movement from that evening through mid-day the next day. It turned out that everything was just fine and I'd just stressed myself out so much that I wasn't feeling baby's kicks, which apparently were all over the place. Weird how that works. But I'd already told myself that if I don't feel baby for a good chunk of time (3-4 hours) and I'm drinking juice/water, I'm calling the dr. to check in. That was just my own promise I made myself.

  • My OB has me on a crazy kick count regimen. I have to count for 30 min every single day and write them down in this little journal she gave me. If I don't get 4 kicks, I should keep counting for another 30 minutes.
