What do you serve for a meal at birthday parties?

I'm sick of doing the same things. It will be at noon, so it needs to be a full meal.

Re: What do you serve for a meal at birthday parties?

  • Soup & sandwiches. We all have fall or winter birthdays, so it works well.

I usually do a crockpot of cream of crab and one of chili. Then turkey, ham and roast beef for sandwiches. Good bread and a couple of cheeses.

  • I like finger foods, people fill up on those just as well as meals...

  • I did a nacho bar for DS's birthday.  We made queso, taco meat, tortilla chips, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, salsa, sour cream, black beans, shredded cheese, etc.  We also did a veggie tray, fruit tray and had cupcakes and ice cream.  Everyone seemed to enjoy it, and it didn't take a lot of time or prep.

Oooh...a taco bar would be a good idea.

  • We have done hotdogs and hamburgers, fajitas, and this time for J's birthday since it is in winter we are doing sandwhiches and soups.
  • I have done:  grilled hamburgers/brats and all that, taco bar, make your own pizza with purchased mini pizza crusts, lasagna with garlic bread and salad, homemade soup and sandwiches (doing this for C's baptism in a couple weeks), pulled pork sandwiches

That's all I can remember doing.  hth.

  • We do chicken salad for lunch parties.  One 'traditional' and one curried.  Then we do various salads....macaroni salad, fruit salad, potato salad, corn salad, whatever we are in the mood for!
  • I usually do tailgating foods. I have made chili, then last year I had a taco bar. This year I am thinking of pulled pork in the crockpot with potato salad and tailgating sides.

    .
  • We did Italian Beef for DS's first birthday and last yr and this yr we did pizza. It's cheap and easy cleanup! LOL

  • My ds's party was at 11:00 on a sunday and each child got  a plate with a mini bagel with butter (I just quickly prepared them that morning), a string cheese, a box of raisins and juice box.  Parents were SO thankful that I did not have the usual pizza and the kids loved it!
