Pregnant after a Loss

Cankles

I know that it comes with territory of being nearly 36 weeks pregnant, but holy crap my ankles (especially my right one) is super swollen. I'm wearing slippers at the office today! I've kept it propped up today but there hasn't been any change.  I have my OB appt on Thursday so I don't really see a point in calling the dr but I just wanted to complain a little I guess.

Anyone else out there with cankles that care to give any tips on reducing swelling?

One more thing... I've read that you should elevate your foot above your heart but how does one do this without laying on your back?

Re: Cankles

  • Ugh, they suck! I had them pretty badly in the hot summer months and really, nothing helped. Massage will make them feel better, but didn't really shrink them any. Mine would get worse throughout the day and then be back to normal the next morning. Thankfully, since it's cooled off I haven't really had them anymore - I did the 1 day I wore socks so I've quit doing that. Bought some furry lined boot/shoes to get me through the cold days sockless! Stick out tongue I don't really know what to do at work either - I mean how can you prop your feet up that much at a desk??? Wish I had better suggestions for you, but I do feel your pain - they are no fun!

  • My right cankle is also larger than my left (I've been chalking it up to spraining it in high school volleyball).  I think you're doing about all you can do, just make sure you're drinking plenty of water (it's the cure for everything, right?).  You're right, it is about impossible to elevate your cankle enough at work but I think every little bit helps.
