The book offers solutions to break sleep associations that are causing your child to not sleep or wake frequently & that not be able to put themselves back to sleep. Like the suck to sleep association - LO needs to have a paci or bottle or boob to fall asleep. LO sleep cycles & doesn't have something to suck on, therefore can't fall back to sleep, therefore wakes up needing something to suck on repeatedly. You gradually break the association so that LO is not dependent on that particular thing to fall asleep.
