Sorry if this is a stupid question but I'm just not sure. I see posts and it seems like several babies have reflux, but don't all babies spit up? It is more when they have other issues as well?
Our little guy was spitting up 4-5 times after he ate, arched his back, and would cry for an hour after he ate. By the time he calmed down it would be time to eat again and the process occurred all over again. It's the worst feeling to feed your baby knowing that it's going to cause him pain.
my DD would spit up after every meal. she also cried non-stop and hated being put down on her back or tummy. she only liked to be held upright. she arched her back during feedings and generally was pretty miserable after a feeding.
For DD, it was pretty clear and she actually never spit up (silent reflux).
She had all the symptoms: hiccups all the time, fussy on the breast, wet burps, screaming from the time she pulled off until she burped, crying when we laid her down. And with the silent reflux, we could hear her swallow what came back up instead of spitting it up. She was miserable whenever she ate and so were we!
But as soon as we started zantac, she turned into a different baby during nursing.
After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!
My DS will spit up anywhere from 2-8 times after each feeding as well as he would arch his back, grunt and cry while eating. After each feeding he was always very unhappy and would cry for hours...pretty much until it was time for him to eat again.

not all reflux babies have the same symptoms... and not all babies spit up. My twins don't spit up with every bottle - they rarely spit up at all now (though Gibby used to puke up an entire bottle about once a week, randomly - that was fun).
Grayson has reflux- his symptoms were screaming while eating- and refusing to eat. He has "silent reflux" which means he doesn't spit up... but he has acid hurting his esophagus.
many babies do spit up and don't have reflux, though... the difference being when it effects what they eat, how they gain weight, their mood, etc .

the bottom line is pain. ALL babies have reflux, by definition...
however not all babies have painful acid splashing up...
