questions about the ERGO

I have heard great things about the Ergo, so I went and checked one out over the weekend. I was surprised to find that they can not be forward facing. For those of you that have them, do your kiddos enjoy them? When do they start riding on your back? For the money, is this the type of carrier you would recommend?

Re: questions about the ERGO

  • We didn't buy our Ergo until Eve was almost eight months old. By that time, she was really too heavy to carry in the front anyway, even with the extra support of the Ergo. We've always used the Ergo to side or back carry. She really started enjoying the back carry at about one year. I think the reason I love my Ergo so much is that I'll be able to use it for so long. Eve's about 27 lbs and she's still super easy to tote when we need to because of the Ergo.

  • Some people LOVE them, I wasn't too thrilled and sold mine.  Of the 3 main SSCs, I think only the Pikkolo can be worn forward facing, correct me if I'm wrong.  I have a Babytrekker SSC that you can wear forward facing and forward facing on back...however I think that's only good for hiking.  I really like Mei Tais, and I feel like there are many more options ie forward facing and a high back carry that J liked much earlier than a regular back carry and still likes better.

ETA: I'm pretty sure you are in Carmichael too?  If you want to borrow anything that I have to try, just let me know :)

  • I love our Pikkolo, because as pp mentioned, you can wear it with the baby forward facing.  So nice! (especially when that is the only way your baby wants to be worn.)
