I went to a baby shower this weekend and met a woman who has named her 3 sons Harrison, Pierce and Jackson. The next one will either be Grant or Carter for a boy or McKinley for a girl. On their own they're fine names but to do that purposely?

What is also strange is that with the exception of Jackson, all were mediocre to terrible presidents. (And even Jackson is controversial). It seems like if you are going to jump on a presidential theme, why pick bad presidents?
I collect presidential memorabilia so I actually think this idea is pretty cute. DS's name is Theodore, but I did NOT name him for TR even though a lot of people ask me that.
Interesting, I wouldn't have thought to do that intentionally. But it's probably no stranger than people who name all their children by the same letter of the alphabet.
Who wants to be the first person to name their kid "Bush"?(Heh heh...)
Serious question: I wonder if the name "Barack" is making a surge...
We used to name all our pets after presidents or political figures. We even had a guinea pig named Martha (Washington). Maybe she should pick a presidential wife for a girl?

I don't see the big deal with it. I like all of those names. There's a couple I never realized were president's names.

I don't take one single minute for granted.
My son is Carter, and if he had been a girl his name would have been Kennedy...and I never once thought of the presedents, DH and I just really liked the names.
A friend of mine named her ds Harrison and Carter. She picked the names because she liked them. It wasn't until after Carter was born and someone asked her what her thing w/ presidents was.

I personally dislike little girl names that are actually last names or names of dead presidents. I have never understood this trend. What happenned to pretty and feminine? I guess it's just NMS.

I know a family who named all their children after Presidents. Their father is a HS History teacher, so it makes sense. They have Madison, McKinley (girl), Carter, and Harrison. I think all those names are adorable.
My favorite boys names happen to be Grant, Carter and Jackson... but if I had three boys would I name them all those?? I don't know its probably too much!
Re: Presidential names
My great-grandmother named two of her boys:
Calvin Coolidge and Coolidge Calvin. They were born about a year apart.
Sidenote: she had 16 babies so I assumed she was running out of names.

Its become one of the most popular names in the last several years. I understand that people are using Obama too.
McKinley for a girl is awful.

I actually like it. I don't really get the theme - but I do like her names!

I don't see why McKinley for a girl is any different than Mackenzie. They're both terrible, IMO.
I have a friend who's daughters are Kennedy and Madison. So NMS.
