So I thought we had found the perfect name. Only to find out today (since my husband can not keep a secret and decided to tell everyone ) that a very famous start recently named her baby it and it happens to be a character in a popular movie series. I hate the fact that wwe may have hopped on a huge bandwagon. Should I suck it up or start again? Our little one is coming in December....

AND it is the name of my bosses little yippy annoying dog!

I think it was just finding out alot of negative all at once. I love it as does my husband so I think we are just going to suck it up! Guess I needed to vent!

I think Luna is a great name! Ellen Pompeo's new DD has that as a middle name, but people will forget about that in about five minutes. You do run the risk of kids comparing her to Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter and making fun, but I'm sure she'll make the name her own and that won't be a problem. Good for you for sticking to the name you love

I disagree.  My niece's name is Luna and she is 8 1/2, right smack in the middle of the age range for big time HP fans and she has not once been called "Luna Lovegood" or "Looney Lovegood". 

I think it is a beautiful name and I say go for it!

It's NMS, but if you and your DH love it I wouldn't change it because of the reasons you stated.

I like it, and don't know of anyone named Luna personally.  I got our name Leighton from the actress on Gossip Girl, and I am not ashamed to let people know it!!    Don't worry about people think...  from here on out everyone is going to have an opinion about EVERYTHING, and you will drive yourself insane if aren't careful!

Use it anyway.  You live in the real world, not Celebrityville.  Who cares what all those rich snobby people do anyway.  I'm sure it will be lovely.

As far as celebrities and their kids go, I would stay away from names that are super-iconic to the point that a certain name only has that one association for most people. If you name your kid Shiloh, Suri, or Bronx, you are likely to hear "oh, like ______, right?" Same goes with naming your kid Madonna, Cher, Alanis, or Elton... they are big names with one association.

I woulnd't worry so much about Luna, though. There's lots of big celebrities, and many of them have kids. These names often show up in press releases for a few days, or get mentioned in occassional articles, but they really aren't on the public's mind for very long at all. I think you are safe.
