So sick of putting dd to bed for over an hour

that I have turned her convertible crib around to face the wall so it is back to a crib.  She is pitching a fit, but I don't care.  I'm so sick of putting her back to bed.  And poor Rob is trying to go to sleep now since he has to get up at 2:30! u.g.h.

Vent over.  Kahlua and decaf begin.

Re: So sick of putting dd to bed for over an hour

  • Yep, do it now because my dd needs me to be with her to fall asleep and she's turning 4.  She did ok as a toddler and then at about 3 the night terrors kicked it up a notch and now it is hard to get her to stay alone.  GL with your dd.
  • I went through that with DS and finally put a gate up in front of the door.  SOmetimes he plays for awhile before bed but it sure beaats having to pick him up and put him back in bed a million times!

  • we went through this stage too -- DS was always a good sleeper. we started putting DS down without laying with him, etc. and it was a tough transition (at first).

We switched to a twin bed (no bumper) and did the gate thing. He loved his bed -- that wasn't the issue. It was the change to making bedtime go a little quicker...he just LOST it.

we followed someone's advice on this board to do a paper ice cream cone and three paper scoops. for every night DS stays in bed all night (or goes back to bed easily), he gets a scoop. After three scoops, we all go for ice cream. We all love it and its great family time.

another thing: we went the comfort route (we usually do a more tough-love approach). when he freaked out, we didn't lie down with him or bring him to our room, but we did tell just give a lot of reassurance and comfort and sat by him in his room.  we also got a night light and a dimmer for his room. he sleeps with the dimmer all the way down and then we shut it off later.

last thing that helped was a 'dream pee' -- we pick up DS half asleep around 11pm and put him on the potty. GL -- we had to try a lot of stuff to find the right thing for us.
