DH is set on calling our future son CAL someday. We were spitballing names and I didn't like Calvin, Caleb, or Callum and we stumbled across Caelan (other spellings were Callen, Kallan so I'm assuming it's pronounced like those) we liked that the ae spelling was of Scottish decent because DH is Scottish and Norweigan.
We've had alot of mixed reviews though because on paper people assume it sounds like Caylen.
Thoughts?
Re: Thoughts on the name Caelan
Love, luck, and prayers to my BFPB Dr. SnowflakeBride
I would assume it was Cay- len.
I would assume Kay-lynn, and I would assume girl. Even pronounced Callin, I would assume a girl.
What about something like McAllister? A little bit of a stretch but not totally. I love the name Callum, personally.
Baby Name Wizard suggests Caleb and Calder as names "related" to Cal. I don't pronounce either of them Cal, but thought I'd throw it out there.
Oops! Just saw you don't like Caleb either, sorry....
I've seen it spelled Calan, which would make it less likely to be thought of as Kay-lin.
I think this name has a feminine sound to it. I don't like it.
If I were set on Cal as a nn, I'd go w/ Calvin or Caleb. Maybe even Callahan.
I like it and my DH likes it too. We were just talking about this last night!
However, like a few people said, my concern was that it sounds a bit like a girl's name.

This, sounds like Cay-len.. but i like it
If we have a girl we are going to name her Kaylin. I thought Caelan if a boy (both pronounced the same) but DH says to feminine.
