BP issues after pre-e

I delivered my LO at 32 weeks due to pre-e.  Prior to getting pg I never had any blood pressure issues.  Even after a month of delivery I am continuing to have high BP.  It is so frustrating.  I monitor it at home, it is a little higher than prior to pg,  but acceptable.  I go to the doctor and it is HIGH!  I am going to the doctor once a week to get a BP check.  I am currently on medication.  I am just curious if anyone else is/was in this same situation?  If so, how long did it take for you body to get back to a normal BP?  Do you have any other suggestions on  how to deal with this?

Re: BP issues after pre-e

  • Sometimes it can take the body 6mos to a year to adjust.  For me I will likely have high bp for the rest of my life.   Is it possible you have "white-coat" syndrome?  You know anxiety about doctors?
  • I never had to be on BP meds, but mine didn't fully regulate until my 6-week pp check-up.  I hope yours goes down soon!  Pre-e is a nasty thing!

  • Mine never went back to normal.  My normal BP is 150/100, and it was normal before my first pregnancy.  I've just come to terms with the fact that I'll be on medication for the rest of my life.
  • I had HELLP. I was on BP meds for 2 months though they expected it would be a life time deal for me so I'm lucky to be med-free.
  • Took me 2 months after my HELLP..

  • I am still on bp medication 3.5 months out.  My bp pre pregnancy was 90/60 and now is110/70s medicated.  Unmedicated it is still very high 150/110 so I will be on meds for at least 6 months.  It stinks but I don't have very bad side effects on the meds so that is nice.

  • they started me on BP meds a few days after Robbie was born. I was on those for a couple of weeks, then I bottomed out, so couldn't take anymore. After I stopped them, it went back up again for a good month or so... then was at least in the not-about-to-have-a-stroke levels for another few months. Then I finally got to a point it was pretty normal, though it would spike up occasionally.

The last 5 or 6 months, though, I've finally been back to normal, actually even a little better than pre-pregnancy.

  • I also had a 32wkr thanks to pre-e.  We tried weaning me off the bp meds about 6 months postpartum but my bp shot right back up.  I still take 5mg of Norvasc every day and monitor my bp at home a few times per week...my son turns 4 in January so unless I have some freakish drop in bp I'm guessing bp meds are a forever thing for me.

     Hugs to you!

  • Mine only got high if I was at the doctors. Could you maybe have them take it after a while instead of as soon as you walk in the door??
