Nail Biting (Take 2)

I have no idea what just happened below, let me try this again.

So I just realized my son must be biting his nails.  I can't remember the last time I've cut them and they are so short.  Definitely biting short.  I've never actually seen him do it; he must be doing it in his crib.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to stop?

TIA

  • I'm so sorry I have no idea why that middle part keeps coming up.

  • I don't really have any major suggestions, but DD does the exact same thing!  I haven't cut her nails in months because she bites them so short.  At first, I would remind her to stop when I first saw her doing it.  Now, I read some info on the internet that says to ignore the behavior as an infant/toddler.  They could be doing it for a multitude of different reasons (bordeom, comfort, curiousity) and to bring attention to it apparently makes them feel like they are being punished...or calling attention to the behavior.  I read that if it continues into kindergarten..that's when you should by the nail-biting stuff, but until then the nail-biting ointment seems like a form of punishment.  I'm not sure what I think of everything that I read...I feel really bad for DD...her nails are so red from biting them so bad, but I don't want her to feel "bad" for doing it when it doesn't appear to be a purposeful behavior.
