Cysts: Does Your RE Do BCP Or Cancel Cycle?

Why does some REs put you on BCP if you have a cyst at your baseline u/s, while others make you cancel the cycle?

I had a 17mm and 32mm cyst on CD2 (b/c I overstimmed last cycle), and instead of cancelling the cycle my RE just put me on BCP for 7 days.  He said that would likely get rid of the cysts and then I could start the cycle. 

Why do some REs do that and some REs cancel?

Last month i had a 38 and 27 cysts on my overies and i was put on BCP for a month and the cycle was canceled. Hopefully 7 days works for you.

Mine cancels if the cysts are active - and that shows up on the baseline E2 level. I had 4 cysts when I started stims for IVF #2, left over from IVF#1 the previous month. But since they weren't active, he let me go ahead. He said the hardest part is they have to keep track of what is a cyst and what isn't. Because if they start thinking a cyst is a lead follicle it can cause them to trigger to soon and the "real" follicles won't be ready. But he said not to worry about that, that was his job.

My RE gives me BCPs.

I am cancelled for the month. I thought you HAD to start stims on CD 3 or 4? I could be wrong. So you take BCP for 1 wk & then start stims?

Yes, and apparently it suppresses your ovaries the way they would be supressed if you were at the start of your cycle.

I got cysts after my first IUI (I think I overstimmed) and my RE at the time cancelled the next cycle.  I haven't had cysts since (although I did switch REs so am not sure how my current RE would handle cysts b/c they're a bit more aggressive).

kind of late but...

I had estrogen producing cysts so they cancelled the cycle.  So I think it depends on if it produces estrogen or not.
