I have never made a cake! I never even realized that until this morning when DD's daycare asked if I wanted to make one for their Halloween Carnival! I was kind of shocked when I came to this realization!
They are going to do a Cake Walk game and are asking parents/teachers to donate cakes for the game. I really don't mind making one, but I have no idea where to even start! I don't think I own any pans!
Any suggestions?! They do not have to be Halloween related. Recipes and also what kind of utensils I would need are appreciated!
Re: Sort of confession:
Ha ha...WHAAA I have to make WHA???
It totally depends on the amount of time you want to spend on it.
If you want to keep it simple, you can always just use box mixes. And buy 2 8 inch round pans at Target.
If this is something you think you will continue doing down the road, I would invest in a good Wilton pan (JoAnn's, Michaels, Hobby Lobby) or go to your local cake store and get a good pan, like an 8 x 3 round or 2 8 x 2 pans. Or square, whatever you want.
You can always just make a homemade cake that tastes yummy that you don't have to decorate like crazy. Like a german chocolate, or carrot, or coconut. That way you don't have to make buttercream and get decorating tips and all that jazz.
If you are wanting to decorate, that's a whole other monster!
Let me know if you need more ideas! good luck.
Wow!
Have you baked other things? If not, I'd probably jsut do a box cake. Some can be pretty decent (though I can't think of a specific one right now, sorry). It's really not hard. Just figure out what size pan you have and follow the directions on the box. And just stick a toothpick in when you think it might be ready (10 mins before the box says it'll be done is when I usually start checking). If the toothpick comes out clean, it's done.
I have baked other things and I think I am capable of making a homemade cake. I think that is why it was such a surprise to me this morning that I never actually made a cake! I am not looking to decorate though. I think something like the german chocolate cake that KU suggested would be good for me since it would not require decoration to look good.
Any recipes for me?
