Philadelphia Babies

Northern DE/Philly area

Repost from 2nd Tri-

My husband and I are looking to move to Northern Delaware after the baby's born. We are looking for a location that is close to the PHL airport. Any suggestions on a good area to start looking. I have looked at Brandywine, Newark and Bear. But I don't know anything about the areas. Please help :)

Thanks!

Re: Northern DE/Philly area

  • IMO, I'd stay away from Newark.  That is where UDel is and it is overrun by college kids during the school year.  Brandywine is a nice area.  I don't know Bear.

  • Newark is huge and there are plenty of areas you can move to in Newark that are away from the University if that's not your thing.  However, if you want to be closer to the airport I'd stay more toward the Brandywine area.  There are some nice places up there, but certain areas of Wilmington are not the best.  You might also try Newport and Elsmere, but personally I think those areas are starting to get a little run down (just trying to think of places with easy access to 95!). Bear might be a little far depending on how close you really want to be (depending on the area it could be 45 min to an hour or longer with traffic from Bear to the airport).  Feel free to PM me with some specific places you're looking at and I can give you as much info as I know (I lived in DE my whole life minus the past two years, and grew up in the Newark/Bear area Smile)

  • I'd say Brandywine, as well.  If you need specific info, feel free to email me at cldc77@gmail.com.  I know the area pretty well.  Good luck!
  • Ditto the North Wilmington/Brandywine around the Naamans Rd/Concord pike area. Although you will probably get more house for your $ in Newark or Bear, but you can't get any closer to the aiport then this area.
