I am having a hard time finding concrete answers to what the rules are for FMLA and claiming disability for a portion of maternity leave. Specifically for NYC and for someone who works for a company that employs less than 50 employees (I think we have about 40 or so).
How does taking disability work?
Any links to webpages you can recommend for me to read up on it?
Thanks!

Re: NYC FMLA & Disability
Hi.
I work for a very small company (15 employees).. I spoke with my boss before we started trying to see what I was getting myself into.
Because the company has less than 50 employee's FMLA does not apply andd we are not covered under it. they did say however that they have enrolled in a short term disability (for any medical reason) for their workers which is only about 400 a week before taxes. needless to say I am pissed but what am I gonna do. I am goin to use all my vacation and sick days (all 15 of them) and then try to phase myself back into work. I am in sales so it is pretty easy for me to work from home for a while
I am also playing around with moving jobs but I still don't think i will be covered due to the fact that FMLA is only valid if you are employed for a year. I don't want to be stuck with No job. Good luck.
