Is one of your twins ahead developmentally of the other? One of my girls is crawling and starting to cruise. My other doesnt crawl yet (they just turned 1). I have her in early intervention but she's not showing much interest in moving her butt. Its very frustrating. I'm really hoping she'll catch up to her sister one day. Has anyone else gone thru this?
Re: toddler mommies...
During their entire first year Charlotte was significantly delayed in gross motor skills, in part due to torticollis. Evelyn was way ahead of Charlotte in rolling, sitting, crawling. Charlotte never crawled, except when she was forced to by her physical therapist and then she hated it so much she cried.
My understanding is that crawling is actually an "optional" skill because kids don't need it to learn to do other skills. What's more important is that (a) that something isn't physically keeping them from crawling (like a weak leg or arm) and (b) that they are trying to get around using alternative methods (rolling, army crawling, scooting on their butts, etc.) Charlotte's physical therapist was concerned about Charlotte because it appeared like Charlotte didn't want to be on her knees - she didn't crawl and she also didn't like pulling up to her knees (despite loving standing). It turned out that it was just a preference, rather than a physical impairment, and we worked through it. Anyway, despite being so far behind Evelyn for the first year, they ended up taking their first steps on the same weekend at 12.5 months.
Charlotte still isn't quite as coordinated as Evelyn, but she's completely on track with her gross motor skills. And Charlotte's completely in the normal range when it comes to gross motor development these days. PT really worked wonders for her.
Best of luck.
