Does anyone know if a hospital in Columbia offers waterbirth?
How about has anyone had any luck with a specific doctor or hospital being open to walking around during labor and delievering in non-traditional postions like on hands and knees or squatting?
Also, does anyone know of success in hospitals to get discharged early or to be able to deliver and leave within hours (outpatient)?
Re: Waterbirth
I think Covenant Birthing Center might offer water birth. Not sure about Lexington Medical Center.
I asked a very experienced local doula (who had just moved from Columbia) for recommendations when I wanted to switch from my high-intervention practice and this is what she said:
"I have found that the two best hospitals in the Columbia area to respect birth plans and honor the wishes of parents are Lexington Medical Center and Providence Northeast. However as you stated they do not have NICU. [They do have special care nurseries though.] On the other hand I have found that the Palmetto hospitals, Richland and Baptist are very high intervention, low touch delivery hospitals. What stands out the most to me is that newborns are separated from the parents for a prolonged period of time for "routine nursery care."
I wish I knew as well! I have done research on it before and it seems like such a wonderful natural method of delivery!!
I was hoping to find the same thing in the Beaufort/Hilton Head area once we conceive!
