Costco ?

So DH bought a Costco membership and we went on Sunday and I will have to admit I wasn't overly impressed. It was crazy busy so that could be part of my disappointment but I was very surprised that they didn't have Pampers. What do you buy from Costco?! What are your must - haves?

Re: Costco ?

  • I love the Kirkland brand baby wipes. I buy all of our paper products there and most grocery items. They have really good prices on meats/fish and I love their wide selection of organic stuff, especially the frozen veggies and fruits. We eat a ton of frozen veggies around here. The loaf bread we get is a good deal there because you basically get 2 loaves for the price of 1 at the grocery store. We have a deep freeze so I tend to only go every month or two and stock up!

Oh, and the gas is a good deal too.

The rest of our grocery shopping I do at Target.

  • Saturday is a zoo, I usually try and go another day!  We buy a lot of our meats, breads, basics there. I like their chicken salad and we usually buy a rotisserie chicken there for dinner, etc.

I always find a book there that I have been wanting to read and their magazines are 30% off so I will grab a People Big Smile....

  • Our must haves from Costco:

TP ( I think we get Nothern Quilted - I just know what the package looks like), Paper Towels (The prices on their paper-goods is a big difference from grocery stores)

Enfamil Premium Lipil 32.5 oz. cans (lately they come with a box of free individual packets too!)

Huggies (DS is allergic to Pampers)

Sharp or Extra Sharp Tillamook Cheddar Cheese (HUGE $ savings, esp. they way I go through that stuff)

    CPK Frozen Pizzas

    Tupperware (not that brand though)

    Pasta sauce

Wine and beer when I'm drinking

Random food we "fall in love with" at their tasting stands

    Batteries

    Wrapping Paper

  • We had a Costco membership and did not like it.  After our membership was expired we signed up with Sam's.  Loving Sam's.  At Costco we found there wasn't much we would buy.  A lot of the brands are ones that we didn't normally buy.  They didn't carry Pampers (cannot stand Huggies).  I think we used our membership maybe all of 5 times.  I go to Sam's at least once a month.

  • The gas for sure

    paper products

    Their chickens

    canned goods

    snacks

    some baby clothes

    toys

  • LOVE Costco!

Huggies (Kids are allergic to Pampers) Diapers and wipes, contact solution, toothpaste, Carter's clothes (less than 50% sale prices they have at Kohl's!), DVDs, batteries, food, laundry detergent, paper goods, film developing, etc.

I just went last week and managed to spend $300!

Try to go on a weekday.  It's not so crazy busy.  Of course, you miss the tasting though....

One thing that I especially like is that they are mindful of customers.  I went on a weekend in December and they had EVERY check lane open and I only had to wait behind one person.  Not at all like the circus that happens when I go to Walmart (except the one at Park and the Tollway; that one is great!).

They also send out coupons that are great!  I didn't know they were having them again b/c we moved and my address changed.  I went to Customer Service to change my address, she gave me the coupon book and they gave me $15.12 back on my purchases.

  • Snacks (Veggie Stix or Veggie Crunch, trailmix, animal crackers)

    Frozen chicken

Edamame (they come in individual containers to warm in the microwave and are so good!)

    Frozen veggies

    Some fruit

    Toilet paper

    Paper towels

    Lysol wipes

    Carter's footed pj's

    Soap

    Advil/Aleve

    Bottled water

    Cottonelle flushable wipes

Once we run out of H's wipes, I may buy the Huggies wipes (which are my favorite)

Still trying to decide if I prefer Pampers or Huggies, but if Huggies wins out, will buy them there

  • Frozen chicken - best ever. ?$2.99 / pound.

Diapers / wipes - WORTH IT.

    Shampoo (Nexxus usually)

    Toothpaste / Toothbrushes

    Goldfish

    Toiletpaper, paper towels,

Paper plates, cups, etc (when we have a BBQ)?

    etc. ?

Basically things that we cannot run out of.?

  • We have a Sam's membership, but I've been to Costco with my mom and was really impressed with their selection- better products than Sam's, IMO. Here's what I ended up buying:

Almond butter (giant jars that were MUCH cheaper than at the grocery store)

    Greek yogurt

    Whole wheat pastas

    Great fruit/produce selection

La Croix- flavored sparkling waters that were a lifesaver in 1st trimester

I just felt like their brands were better than what I usually find at Sam's. Too bad there's not a Costco anywhere near our house!

  • We LOVE Costco and have been members for several years now. We haven't gone back to Sam's ever since, just because the product selection / quality is better at Costco and I like the actual stores and service better than that of Sam's as well.

Here are some of our regular purchases from Costco --- we also often times fuel up both of our vehicles here.

    Kirkland Brand Wipes

Kirkland Brand Diapers (when Hudson was a baby we also purchased formula at Costco)

Large Bags of Individual Packaged Boneless Chicken Breasts

Large Bags of Individual Packaged Chicken Thights

    Rib Eye Steaks

    Laundry Detergent

    Dish Washing Detergent

    Apple Juice

    Fruit

Baby Green Spinach (they sell a huge package of it for fairly inexpensive and it's organic)

Quick meals - like frozen pizza and frozen taquitos

    Morton's Tri-Tip

Occasionally, we get paper towels and toilet paper here although we usually get it at Target

    Sweet N Low

Batteries - we pretty much only buy Kirkland's brand in large packages now

Bottled Water - although, we've stop buying bottled and bought BPA free reusable water bottles that we just refill from our filtered tap water instead.

Wrapper paper and ribbon - especially the ribbon at Christmas time

    Their deli rotisserie chicken salad

    Canned chicken and canned turkey

    Snack items

    Pita Chips

    Jalapeno-artichoke dip

    Pickles

    Canned asparagus

    Boxes of organic chicken broth

Wine & beer (not right now obviously)

    Desserts around the holidays

    Twin packs of bread

Their bakery muffins - blueberry or almond poppy are SO yummy

    Their bakery bagels

    Some baby clothes

DVD's, children's books, some cookbooks, some children's toys

We've also made numerous large one-time purchases there too - laser printer, ink-jet printer, entertainment center, television, tires....

I'm sure that I left something out, but we seriously shop there a ton and go about once a week. We always find things we need or could use and always feel like we get a great deal on things there. Much more satisfied then we ever were when we used to shop at Sam's. To me, there's just no comparison.

  • Oh, and their customer service is the best.  I had couches I bought there and one was a little discolored after a year, and they just took them back and gave us cash back.
  • i like Costco because they have snack items that you either can't find at other stores or are at way better prices - a lot of the Kirkland/Costco brand food is awesome!

we buy organic  animal crackers, Disney dried apple snacks, peanut butter stuffed pretzels, costco cereal - they have great deli food, the pizza at the snack counter is great and their cakes are SO yummy!
