how do you turn down a job???

 I know this sounds bad... but the job I thought I'd love, not so much... now they're calling and left a message saying they need to know my opinion either way so they know how to move forward.  ???   I would love to work for the organization one day... but not this position.  what to say... that?  or what?

I would say exactly what you said here. While you appreciate the opportunity, this specific position does not fit into your career goals, but you would love to have the opportunity down the road to work with their organization in another role.

I agree that you should be able to tell them exactly what you told us. Or is it kind of one of those "once you get your foot in the door" maybe you could internally apply for other positions? I think they will respect you being able to tell them the truth.
