Bumper question

I finally got the bedding last night and put everything together in the room and the bumper does not seem right to me.  I does not fit nicely against the crib.  It also makes it really hard to make the bed up.  I know there are going to be a lot of late night sheet changes and I don't want to make it any harded.

Am I doing something wrong with this bumper.  I feel like such an idiot.  It seems so simply but it is not registering with me.

Any help, ideas...?

Re: Bumper question

  • nope that's pretty typical, bumpers don't always look like they do in the catalogs when you install them at home and they do make it more difficult to change sheets.  That's why we're opting not to have one or get a breathable one.

  • Is there any space between the mattress and the sides of the crib?  Some women I know put the bumper basically flush against the mattress, both to help hold the bumper in place (and make the mattress fit more snugly) and to have less bumper material up above the mattress.

Oh, and I'd recommend getting something like the Ultimate Crib Sheet, which sits on top of the crib sheet and fastens easily in the corners -- all the moms I know rave about how this makes late night changes so much easier.

  • I had to tie my bumpers not on the corners, but the crib slants closest to the corners (if that makes sense) to get it to fit properly.

Yes, changing sheets is a big pain in the butt!  But, my daughter is 2 1/2 yrs. old and I've had maybe one or two nights of this.  Unless you have a leaker (and if you do, change diapers or go to overnight ones) or they are sick, you really don't have to change the sheets at night that much!

  • I've seen online people putting the bumper on the outside of the crib, about the level of the mattress.  Then you see the skirt and the bumper, you won't "waste" the bumper, but it won't impede on changing the sheet, and then it's not a hazard for LO.  Just an idea.
