DS has dry skin and keratosis pilaris. We've been using Aveeno body wash and lotion on him. Because of the KP, we lotion him all over twice a day. Once it started getting cooler, we switched to Eucerin lotion (b/c it's thicker and we used it last fall & winter too). However, I noticed today that his shoulders, neck, and upper chest are so dry! It was flaky, and red where he had been scratching it. Poor thing. Any recs for my baby's itchy, dry skin??
Re: DC's with dry skin
I really recommend Cetaphil soap (though not for hair). IMHO, Aveeno is just marketing and not any different from J&J.
My DD only gets baths about 2x/week (unless she's dirty) and it has really helped her dry skin. The rest of the time, I just wipe her hands/face/feet with a washcloth.
Carson hads the kerotosis pilaris thanks to his mommy
i have been using dove unscented sensitive bar soap on him forever. For lotion i use the eucerin but i don't lotion him twice a day. he normally gets lotion after a bath.
in the winter he does have a couple small patches of eczema and when it gets red and irratating i use hydrocortisone for a couple of days and it clears up.
See, our pedi recommended Dove bar soap, and we used that for a while...until he rubbed it in his eye! That was awful. I may have to give that another shot, and just be really careful.
I will check out the Cetaphil too. I think we have some of the Cetaphil lotion around here. I may see if that helps.
We do only bathe him every other day, like PP's suggested.
yeah, Carson hasn't really rubbed it in his eye yet (but we have had sunscreen in the eyes - that was torture!). i wash his hands first and immediately rinse his hands. i use a wash cloth to wipe his face off, i don't really use soap on his face.
It's like a reflex for Cole. As soon as I wash his arm, the arm goes right up to his face and across his eyes. I may try washing an arm, then rinsing it right away, before he gets a chance!
