My dr is concerned about possible protein in my urine and ordered a 24 hr. urine test. Apparently I have to collect all urine and refrigerate it in between. Any tips? This is not going to be fun!
Sorry, forgot to say, the fridge is okay at first, but a total pain in the you know what in the middle of the night when you're clumsy.
Make sure you get your "specimen" back into the lab within 24 hours of completing your 24 hours (so, if you start it at 6pm today, you're done tomorrow at 6pm and it needs to be in on Friday by 6pm).
Yeah, I had to do one last Friday (still waiting to get results, actually). I worked from home that day (didn't seem practical to lug a vat of urine around my office). I just kept the collection jar in the fridge. It was a bit of a PITA, but not a huge deal.
As a lab professional my only advice is to ask your dr office or the lab for a "hat" to put in the toilet. It is a little plastic container that hangs in the toilet that you pee into. Makes it easier to collect and pour into the 24 hour specimen container.

Yes! I had one of these and it did make it super easy.
In 24 hrs I ended up peeing three 2-liter soda bottles. The office had only give me one 2 litre bottle so I had to improvise and dump soda from 2 other bottles. Get a bucket with ice next to the toilet and have fun. My tests came back neg too.
I had a test last week. I used the 'basin' as I called it (hat) and it really made the whole things easy. 24 hours flies by when you have an end in mine. I actually almost forgot to stop peeing in my container until DH pointed out that I was past my time and that I should take it to the doc's office.
PS - to make it all more fun, my DH put bets down as to how much I would pee, I won! And didn't even try
I was bad, and didn't use the "middle of the night" pee in the container. I went in a solo cup and poured it into the container. I had no issues, and my results came back good. She said that since my bp was not high, it may mean that my body just produces more protein than normal.

This. It is a lot easier to have it handy next to the toilet and not have to go all the way to the fridge.
I get to do my 2nd 24 hr. urine test starting tomorrow. It is tons of fun...lol.
