Toddlers: 24 Months+

Very late teether ?

DD isn't 2 yet.  She's about 21 months and only has 4 teeth.  The bottom 2 came in at 13 months and the top 2 at 14 months.  There has been nothing since and no signs of getting any anytime soon.  I'm starting to worry.  She's completely normal in every other way.

Were any of your LOs this late and then they suddenly came in?  I'm going take her to the dentist in a couple of months.  I just wondered about you all's experience. TIA!

  • I know that our DD didn't have any teeth at all until 12 months, and then it was just the front 4. I feel like more came in around 18 months, like those back molars. I totally can't remember when the rest came in! Your DD doesn't have any of the back teeth at all? Is it hard for her to eat at all? Not that anything is necessarily wrong, but it's unusual. If you've got a dentist's appt. set up I would just keep it and go then if the teeth (or lack thereof) aren't causing problems.

  • Thanks for the reply.  She has no back teeth at all.  I still have to cut her food up into bite size pieces because she can't take bites out of things.  She does fairly well gumming pieces of food though.

  • my DD got her first tooth at 13 months, her second tooth at 15 months and still (at 21 months) has no additional teeth. She does however look like she's ready to cut 3 more teeth but the have just been sticking out of her gums not all the way thru for the past month or so. very frustrating. esp since we have bad teething days on and off here and there due to them moving every once in a while.

my pedi isn't worried at all. some babies just get them in their own sweet time.

  • oh, and i wanted to add that the two teeth she does currently have are the two bottom front teeth. the ones that are almost in are the top left incisor, the one next to it (not the other incisor) and the canine all in a row. no back teeth for us either.

  • I'm relieved to hear that some of you have experienced something similar.  Maybe she'll get them all at once.  Thanks!
