Teeth brushing

How well does this need to be done?

I had the kid who would FREAK about it forever. Now she will happily stand infront of the sink and brush for a 1/2 hour (mostly water play, but hey).  But she HAS to do it herself. Sometimes I can get in there real quick. And she listens if I say to do back teeth/top/bottom/tongue/whatever... think this is okay?

Re: Teeth brushing

  • He brushes first...I do remind him of all the spots...then I do a quick brush on them.  Once the toothpaste is mostly gone he doesn't care.  I don't add more toothpaste to the toothbursh.  I was burshing just once a day (at night) and when we took him to a pedi dentist at 1 year old he had plaque!  So...now it is am and pm...religiously.  The next three check ups have been good...no plaque...course it could also be because he was eating more grown up foods instead of the sticky baby stuff.

  • We play dentist. I start it and really brush it and then let her finish.

  • It is total torture at my house, but MH is a pediatric dentist so he gets it done. James fights it the whole time though. He will happily "try" to do it himself but MH does it so it gets done well. MH has taken 2 year olds to the OR because they have had so many cavities so I let him handle the tooth brushing so we don't have to deal with that!
  • I hold Brookes head down and go for it while she screams because nothing else has worked.
