I think considering the current popularity (or notoriousness, depending on your political stance) of the Palin family, you'd have to be prepared for many, many comments on that. ?My first thought was "like Palin?"

Palins aside, I don't like the name. ?It doesn't sound like a name and it will definitely be made fun of on the playground.?

It doesnt make me think of the Palin's at all.  The two Tripps I know are nicknamed that because they are the third of some name.

  As a nickname then ok but I have seen people just name their kid Trip.  But with nicknames you can go out there a little.  My dd is called Gray.  No one will remember the Palin family.

It's not a name, it's a verb.  Especially when it's not even his given name but something you spontaneously call him for no apparent reason.

I knew a guy named Tripp in college (spelled with 2 P's).  I thought it was cool.

I met him at a party and he said, "Hi, my name is Tripp" and I said, "Tripp? Like an adventure?"

Trip originally was a nn for "the third." I don't really like it.

Sorry, just read your second post that he will indeed be the third.  I think at least it makes sense now, but I still don't love it. A bit too pretentious sounding for me.

I think that I do like if for a nickname if he's the 3rd (otherwise it doesn't really make sense) and if it has 2 P's (1 looks like a 'road trip' or 'trip and fall').

I've known 2 Tripps... both nice, good looking, fun guys from good families so I guess I have a good impression of the name!
