Babies on the Brain

am i crazy?

we're getting the britax ready to install in the car. C can sit up in a shopping cart well, and he sometimes uses his elbows to push himself out of his infant seat before we can buckle him in. we think he's ready to move up to the britax. it's a big commitment, and i'm anxious about it.

Re: am i crazy?

  • As long as he's still rearfacing, moving him to a convertible is no big deal. Just means you can't take him in and out of the car as easily. Some people start their kids in the convertible.  Matthias moved to the convertible at 6 months because he hated his infant carrier. We waited until Ezra was closer to nine months because I liked being able to take him in the carrier.

See, Colin is about 3 lbs and very close in length to outgrowing his infant seat.

  • We moved Em at 6 months!!! She was ready and loved her Britax over her infant seat. :)
  • Neither of my kids could sit up great when we had to make the carseat transition.  It worked out ok.  For shopping carts and high chairs we kept some fleece blankets in the car that we could use to help prop them up until they could sit on their own for long amounts of time.  (We still do this in those crappy restaurant high chairs that have no support.)  You'll find tricks to help if there's situations that he's not quite physically ready for.

Then I would make the switch.

  • Cal still has another 4 ish lbs to go till he outgrows his, and I think length-wise he'll be right on target to outgrow it when his weight does.  I am hoping to squeeze another month or 2 out of his infant seat.  He honestly doesn't mind it at all in the car, but does hate riding in it otherwise.  So I already end up carrying him and leaving it in the car a lot. But I do still use it if I am making a quick run into Target, Costco or the grocery store or going out to eat (somewhere just to set him while we actually eat), and I am not ready to give that up yet!  We tried a high chair the other day at a coffee shop and I was petrified the entire time that he would fall out one of the leg holes.  He's sitting up well on his own but not quite ready for the shopping carts and whatnot.
