Low lying placenta - anyone else?

My doctor diagnosed me with a low lying placenta today. I'm now on pelvic rest until a follow-up U/S in 8 weeks. She has asked me not to google this condition so that I don't worry, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experience with this. She said it usually corrects itself on it's own...I hope so! The only upside is that we get to see our little boy again!

Re: Low lying placenta - anyone else?

  • Mine said there are different forms of it or different ways that it can happen...However, they all are called the same thing...

  • I had one with DS that they found at the 20 week u/s and it slowly moved.
  • Mine was at 12 weeks, but the tech seemed to think it would fix itself. She just said to call if I had any spotting whatsoever. We'll see if things are normal on Friday at my big u/s.

  • If someone told me NOT to google something... I would do it from my phone immediately.

Either way, it IS pretty common from what I understand, and it DOES correct itself a lot of the time. Rest up, that pelvis will be put to hard work soon enough ;)

  • Mine is anterior and low-lying, but not over the cervix (so I'm not on pelvic rest).  I just have to have a follow-up u/s in December, but both the Maternal and Fetal Med doc who read my first u/s and my midwives said it usually corrects itself as the uterus grows.  At my appointment yesterday, the midwife just said to watch out for any bleeding in the meanwhile.
  • I had a low lying placenta at 18 weeks, and it had moved up by 24. Hope yours does, too!

We will always love you, our little angel.
  • I dont know about your condition although I did have something weird with my placenta at first but it corrected itself.

On a second note:  I'm having a Hokie baby too and I love your siggy!  Where did you get it?  Do you still have the code?  I also live in Richmond - small world.
