finally a referral to a pediatric gastroenterologist- and follow up to moro reflex...

We went to the pedi again today for my son's reflux because he coughed up blood this weekend.  They increased his meds so much- poor little guy...he hates taking them!  Now on 2ml of prevacid 2 times a day, 1ml of zantac 3 times a day, and maloxx every 2-4 hours. They said it may take weeks to get in to see the specialist.  I hope it comes earlier than that!  I hate seeing him like this.  The pedi listened to my concerns about his startle reflex.  She watched the videos intently and told me that she really didn't feel that they were anything to worry about.  She did another thorough exam on him and said his tone was good and that neurologically he looked good. She told me to just continue to watch him.  She said the reflex stuff should start to disappear anywhere from now until 4 months.  So, of course with my background working with children with neurological impairments I am going to continue to watch and video any unusual behavior.  If it continues or changes over the next couple of weeks I will go back and will request a referral to ped neurologist.  I am happy that I felt she actually listened to my concerns and seemed to do a thorough exam.  But, you are right...a mommy's intuition is the best!  I will continue to follow my gut instinct... So, this was weird.  I had my neurology appt after his appt today (I have migraines).  My new neurologist (we just moved to the area) recommended I try Reglan for my migraines!  How weird is that- that we were just talking about that yesterday.  If it is not good for my son....wouldn't is be bad for me to take if I am breast feeding???  Thanks for all the support!!

Don't quote me on this, I **think** they can prescribe Reglan for low breastmilk production. I was given Reglan ONCE in the ER when I had a severe stomach virus/food poisoning and was pregnant.I guess it was to make the vomiting lessen??? It made me feel so awful. I cannot really explain my reaction to it... but I ended up with a fever overnight b/c of it (or at least that's what I've always thought) and my heart felt like it was going to come out of my chest. I have bad reactions to medications.... that's just my history - so I wouldn't necessarily think it would make most people have those side effects.

I havent really looked into the safety of Reglan in adults. It wouldn't scare me AS much because we can actually tell how we feel and monitor it - whereas a baby cannot.

Reglan is RXed for low breast milk (but for many women does not work as well as other non-FDA meds, but that is a diff subject all together) It does cross the blood brain barrier and one of teh side effects if depression (wh/ is not good for some PP women) also there can be some long term effects of the Reglan (search reglan and lawsuits) but I think that can be said about many if not all drugs. You have to way the pros and cons and how it reacts to your body.

I am happy to hear that your pedi really listened to you, sounds like you have a good doc on your side. I hope the GI can help the reflux. I am on a FTT board on baby center and I know that lots of those kids have reflux, it does not sound fun.

Not sure on the Reglan but I'm glad everything seems to be okay.  Now it's just waiting weeks and weeks for the meds to work.  Hopefully it will go faster, rather than slower.
