How do you make pot roast?

I'm going to ask my mom, and also look online for recipes, but I thought I'd start here.

What kind of meat do you buy, how long do you cook it (crockpot), do you put the veggies on the bottom or does that matter, what do you put on it, how do you make the accompanying gravy, what else do I need to know?

Re: How do you make pot roast?

  • We use eye roast and cook it in crock pot for about 8hrs.  We put the roast and the gravy (canned or the packet kind) and then like 2-3 hours later we add the veggies.

  • At my walmart they make kits in the meat section all ready to go.  It's got the roast, veggies, and seasoning mix.  You just put it in the crockpot on low all day.

If you don't have those just buy a beef or pork chuck roast and cut up some onion.  Throw in some baby red potatoes and some baby carrotts.  McCormick makes pot roast seasoning packets in the spice isle.  Put it all in a crockpot and cook on low for 10-11 hours.

  • It's super easy.

Choose a shoulder cut, because the meat comes out the best. We buy about 1.5 lbs.

Brown the meat on all sides in a dutch oven with some oil. Take it off the heat. Put a can of beef broth, some mustard, worchester sauce, and a bayleaf in the pot. Cover with a piece of tinfoil and then the lid. Cook for 30 minutes for each 0.5 lb/meat in your regular oven at 350. When there is an hour left of cooking time, throw in baby carrots, chopped potatoes, two handfuls of green beans, and a small container of mushrooms. (you can also use whatever you want ... peas, onions, corn, radishes, etc). Recover and finish cooking.

You know it's done when the veggies are tender-crisp and the meat falls apart with a fork.

  • This is the best (and easiest!) pot roast I ever made!!!!

  • i buy either a rump or chuck roast. i season it with salt, pepper, garlic, and worcheieuywyweoweyter sauce lol. then i pour a can of cream of mush soup and half a can of water in the bottom of the crock pot and add half of an onion. i also season the soup water mixture. then i put the roast in the crock pot and put the rest of the onion on top. i cook it on low for about 12 hours. it comes out sooo tender, and we always use the leftovers for sandwiches the next night.
  • I usually use pork loin - peppercorn flavored

I cut it up raw into bite size chunks then dice up potatoes, carrots, onion, celery and a clove of garlic

throw everything into the crock pot with a can of cream of mushroom and a can of cream of celery - add salt and pepper and cook until meat is done... about 8 to 10 hours on low...... ( I work a 10 hour day so I'll get everything ready the night before and turn it on in the morning, come home and yummo!)
